Sykes Transport traces its origins to 1959 when founder Roger Sykes commenced trucking operations in Geelong, Victoria, starting with small local loads from a utility vehicle. The company expanded steadily through the 1960s and 1970s, and in 1981 became the first operator to obtain permits for road trains across the Nullarbor on east-west interstate haulage. Under the leadership of David Sykes, who moved to Perth in 1995 to manage the WA depot, the company transitioned its focus to Western Australian operations.
