Centurion Transport has secured a five-year contract with Australia Post to manage freight delivery across three key regions of Western Australia — Central, Goldfields, and the North West. The contract leverages Centurion’s extensive regional network built over more than 50 years of servicing some of Australia’s most remote communities.

Contract Scope

Under the agreement, Centurion is responsible for transporting parcels and mailbags between Perth and regional post offices in towns including Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Geraldton, Port Hedland, Broome, and Kununurra. The service covers both direct deliveries to regional post offices and handling returns back to Perth from regional towns.

The contract commenced in mid-March 2025, and Centurion has since demonstrated strong delivery performance, receiving positive feedback from both Australia Post’s operational and retail teams. The arrangement consolidates mail and parcel deliveries into Centurion’s existing transport routes, improving service consistency to remote communities.

Regional Expertise

Centurion’s CEO highlighted the natural fit between the company’s capabilities and Australia Post’s regional needs: “Our roots are in regional WA. We’ve built our network over five decades to deliver safely, reliably and regularly to even the most remote parts” of the state.

The company operates nine distribution centres across Western Australia, with a fleet of more than 2,000 vehicle assets that travel over 25 million kilometres annually across WA and the Northern Territory. This existing infrastructure — originally built to service the mining and resources sectors — provides the backbone for reliable mail and parcel delivery to towns that other carriers may find commercially challenging to reach.

Strategic Value

The Australia Post contract represents a significant diversification for Centurion beyond its traditional mining and resources base. While the company remains Western Australia’s largest independently owned transport and logistics operator with deep roots in the Pilbara, Kimberley, and Goldfields mining corridors, the postal contract demonstrates its capacity to service government and consumer logistics at scale.

For Australia Post, the partnership provides access to Centurion’s established regional routes and depot network without the need to maintain dedicated long-haul infrastructure across WA’s vast distances. The five-year term — considerably longer than typical freight contracts — suggests both parties see the arrangement as a strategic partnership rather than a short-term procurement exercise.

The contract also underscores a broader trend in Australian logistics where regional freight operators with deep local knowledge are winning work that might previously have been handled by national carriers operating at the edges of their networks.
